Tolerances and surface roughness
Plastic is influenced by several factors including temperature and humidity, as well as the cutting tool- and the machines’ nature.
Items at OTV are processed and controlled by a temperature at 20-22 degrees. The following control and/or installation at our customers should be carried out at the same temperature, to avoid unnecessary impact to the component.
In order to meet the requirements for the dimensions and tolerances, each cutting tool and tolerances are measured before use.
Tolerance
OTV uses ISO 2768-1 as standard, if nothing else is specified or prearranged.
Surface roughness
As a rough guide, we have set up a possible surface roughness in different plastic types. It is only indicative and our technical sales department should be contacted for further information.
- RA 0,4 – 1,0 Very fine surface that requires a long processing time.
Material: PETP and POM.
Tool requirements: Diamond-coated tools - RA 1,6 – 3,2 Neat surface resulting from milling and turning.
Material: Almost all plastic types
Tool requirements: No special requirements - RA 3,2 – up. Sawn surface
Material: Almost all technical plastic types
Tool requirements: No special requirements
