Reach directive
REACH is an EU directive (1907/2006) about chemicals and secure use thereof. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. REACH aims to improve the protection of people and the environment, ensure the free circulation of substances on the European market as well as strengthen competitiveness and innovation in the chemical industry.
OTV imports engineering plastic and it is purchased in the EU and supplied either as sheets, rods or hollow bars. At OTV further processing only happens in the form of milling, turning, bending and welding. Therefore OTV does not directly subject to REACH registration, but has as an importer recommended all our suppliers that they themselves as well as with their suppliers ensure that they meet the requirements of REACH. Downstream users (As OTV) have a duty to consider the safety related to these substances, primarily on the basis of information from their suppliers.
Our suppliers have written to say that either they themselves or their suppliers meet the requirements of REACH and are on schedule for REACH registration. Systematic follow-ups with suppliers ensures that our plastic does not contain substances from the SVHC-list without OTV will be informed about this. The obligation to register for our suppliers occurred on June 1st, 2008 but there is a transitional arrangement, which in some cases run for June 1st, 2018, for some substances which are temporarily registered.
