PEEK – Polyetheretherketon
PEEK is one of the newer materials, which is known for good chemical resistance and temperature resistance. It has a good wear- and fatigue strength. PEEK is a very used material, especially where many of the known thermoplastic material’s properties are exceeded.
Application
When there is a need for a material, which withstands high temperatures, PEEK can be a solution. Even with 250°C, the material holds its good strength and dimension stability. Just as it withstands sterilization in autoclave as well as gamma radiation. Although the material has a big toughness, you do have to be aware of the small notch toughness when processing.
- Gears
- Pump parts
- Precisions bearings
PEEK can be delivered with carbon and fiberglass reinforcement. This increases the opportunities for application up to 300°C without significant loses of the mechanical qualities. PEEK can be used in hot water, without any problems, but is not resistant against concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid and acetone. The UV-stability can be increased by adding carbon.
